The Amity Affliction has officially addressed the elephant in the room… Ahren Stringer, the band’s longtime clean vocalist and bassist, is out. After weeks of fan speculation, the band released a statement confirming that Ahren will no longer be recording or touring with them, citing a breakdown in their relationship and struggles in Ahren’s personal life.
In their Instagram post, the band explained that they had remained silent to handle the situation privately but ultimately felt compelled to share their side. They stated that they had canceled tours and passed on opportunities in an effort to support Ahren but ultimately found it “impossible to continue to tolerate certain behaviors”. They also mentioned that Ahren had repeatedly expressed that he no longer enjoyed or wanted to continue touring.

Prior to the band sharing this post (Dated 02/14/2025), ahren took to his own platform with a (Now Deleted) statement regarding future tour dates. He confirmed his departure, writing:
“Hi everyone, as you who follow me know, I’m not touring with the band I started, ‘The Amity Affliction.’ I asked the band to advertise to y’all that I ain’t gonna be there. Apologies to everyone that was not communicated by the band. Just wanted to let you know if you’re expecting to see me, I won’t be there. Nothing but love x.”
It’s a bittersweet moment for longtime fans. Ahren co-founded The Amity Affliction in 2003, shaping their signature mix of post-hardcore intensity and catchy melodic hooks. His clean vocals became a defining element of the band’s sound, from early bangers like “I Hate Hartley” to more recent anthems like “Soak Me in Bleach“. We highly Recommend the song “Dr. Thunder” from their second album “youngbloods” (https://amzn.to/42VOvko), or the little known B-Side “Snickelfritz” from the same period.
The band assured fans that they’re not slowing down, promising to continue touring and releasing new music. With major festival dates already planned in the coming months, such as inkcarceration in july. The vocal chemistry between Ahren and frontman Joel Birch was a major driving force behind the band’s success, and it remains to be seen how The Amity Affliction will evolve moving forward.
No matter what went down behind the scenes, we at The RockTone wish Ahren the best. Breakups suck, especially when it’s between a band and a founding member. Here’s hoping both Ahren and The Amity Affliction find their groove in this next chapter.
