Lynyrd Skynyrd, the legendary Southern rock band, is hitting the stage at “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash“. This event promises to be a rollicking good time, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
Lynyrd Skynyrd, the iconic group known for their classic hits, is part of an all-star lineup. They’re sharing the spotlight with the likes of country sensations Thomas Rhett and Lainey Wilson. Rhett, a powerhouse with 21 No. 1 singles and a tequila brand to his name, and Wilson, the 2023 ACM Awards top female nominee, bring their own unique flair to the show.

Icons in the genre of Southern rock, Skynyrd has etched its name in music history with anthems like “Sweet Home Alabama”, a tune that instantly transports listeners to the deep South. Then there’s “Free Bird,” a song that’s become a cultural staple, renowned for its epic guitar solo that’s as free as the bird it sings about. And our favorite being “That Smell“, a track condemning the cycle of drug abuse and hard partying that the band was experiencing at the time of writing.
Fast forward to today, and Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s lineup keeps the spirit alive with guitarist Rickey Medlocke (whom played with the band in the early 70’s as a studio drummer). He’s joined by Johnny Van Zant, who has been the band’s frontman since the late 80s, also brother of the original leader singer Ronnie Van Zant. The lineup is rounded out by Michael Cartellone on drums, Mark Matejka on guitar, Peter Keys on keyboards, and Keith Christopher on bass, each adding their own flair to the band’s legendary sound. Together, they keep the flame of Lynyrd Skynyrd burning bright for future generations to hopefully enjoy their music live.
