Rock has always thrived on reinvention, and Måneskin’s Damiano David is living proof that sometimes, stepping out on your own is the only way to truly grow. After years of skyrocketing fame as the swaggering, eyeliner-clad voice of the Italian rock phenomenon Måneskin (https://amzn.to/4icgctX), David made waves this past September by teasing a solo career. Now, with the release of his first singles, “Silverlines” and “Born with a Broken Heart“, he’s turned that tease into a bold reality, offering fans a deeply personal glimpse into his artistic evolution.
“..I started to really understand that I’m not enjoying this. So it was like, ‘Okay, it’s either I keep doing this and I become completely numb to my job, or I take a big step..”
In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the 25-year-old opened up about the emotional crossroads that led to his decision. “…I started to really understand that I’m not enjoying this. So it was like, ‘Okay, it’s either I keep doing this and I become completely numb to my job, or I take a big step. I do the scary thing and I take everything on my shoulders and I try to do it.’ And thank God I did it because now I got back all that enthusiasm and fun and happiness” he shared, reflecting on his time with Måneskin.
Speaking about the moment he chose to step away, he shared with People: “Life goes on. I started when I was 16, now I’m 25. My priorities have changed. My habits, my goals in life… This was the moment where everything was fitting and I was needing to do this. I was really in the right headspace to do it.” Given this perspective, it seems his decision was about more than simply redefining his musical expression—it was also about striving for a sense of personal authenticity through music.
This perspective carried into his music, where he consciously traded Måneskin’s bold, arena-filling sound for tracks that feel more introspective and raw. His first solo release, “Silverlines” (https://amzn.to/3D9shR3), is a collaboration with Labrinth that offers a powerfully piano-driven exploration of optimism. Meanwhile, “Born with a Broken Heart” delves into vulnerability, balancing fear and hope in a way that feels refreshingly unguarded.
Even as he forges his own path, David maintains a deep respect for his bandmates and their shared legacy. “What’s part of the band stays with the band, and it’s property of the band because it’s what we created together,” he said. “I’ll always be respectful toward it, and I’ll always be proud of it.”
The transition, however, hasn’t been without its challenges. David acknowledges that not all fans will embrace this new chapter.
“Some of my old fans are going to understand it for sure, because they always understood me. Other people are not going to be willing to because they’re going to be attached with the band and what I represented with the band. Of course, I hope new people jump in. There’s a lot of people in the world!”
Looking ahead, David’s solo career is set to reach new heights with a global tour starting next September. Spanning five continents, the tour will give fans worldwide the chance to experience his redefined artistry live.
