In an unexpected turn of events, Alice in Chains was compelled to cancel their scheduled tour kickoff performance at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, on Thursday night, May 8, 2025. The cancellation came just an hour before the 8 p.m. showtime due to a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” involving drummer Sean Kinney. The band announced the news via their social media channels at 6:43 p.m., shortly after completing their soundcheck.
This concert was intended to mark the kickoff of Alice in Chains’ new tour and their first live performance since the Sick New World music festival in Las Vegas in April 2024. It also would have been their first Connecticut appearance since 2019. The abrupt cancellation left many fans, some of whom were already arriving at the venue, disappointed.
As of now, the band has not provided further details regarding Kinney’s condition or whether upcoming tour dates, including performances in New Jersey and Ohio, will be affected. Mohegan Sun has stated that ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase.
Alice in Chains is scheduled to appear at several festivals this month, including the MMRBQ in Camden, New Jersey (May 10), Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio (May 11), and Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida (May 16). They also have headlining shows lined up in Nashville, Tennessee (May 13), and Dothan, Alabama (May 15).
